TLDB April Update

The TLDB April update includes progress on the database, recommended books, and other news about the Trans Literature Database.

April was a busy month. I changed my focus to creating a database of Trans & Nonbinary books and authors on March 29, and spent all of April finding and entering books.

The Numbers

I’ve entered 477 books into the database so far. Most I imported through spreadsheets I’ve collected. Importing relies on outside cataloging, in my case I use Google books. This means the records are incomplete and need cleaning up. So far I have edited about 20% of what’s in the database. I enhance descriptions, update covers, add co-authors, correct any mistakes I find, and add links to stores and libraries. I am working from newest to oldest. It will be a long process.

Suggestions

I’m missing a lot in this database. If there is a book or author you’d like to see, please use my contact form and let me know. If you are an author and would like your own books listed, please use the author contact form.

This Month’s Favorite Find

The FTM Newsletter started in 1987 and continued into the 2000’s. Lou Sullivan started it and FTM International published it. There are two books about Lou Sullivan: We Both Laughed in Pleasure: The Selected Diaries of Lou Sullivan and Lou Sullivan:  Daring To Be A Man Among Men. He was a gay trans man when the gatekeepers said there were no such people.

I found digitized copies of the FTM Newsletter that anyone can access online. I was excited to add this piece of history to the database.

Book of the Month

Each month I’ll highlight a book that I’ve read and can recommend. This month it is The Trans-Galactic Bike Ride: Feminist Bicycle Science Fiction Stories of Transgender and Nonbinary Adventurers edited by Lydia Rogue. It is part of the Bikes in Space series and is a lot of fun.
