Lending Library

The Lending Library is a side project of the Trans Literature Database. Having collected a fair number of trans books, I’ve decided to start lending them out for those who cannot access them otherwise, whether due to financial or safety concerns.

What is the Lending Library?

A small collection of trans books that are available to be borrowed through the mail within the United States.

What books are available?

I am in the process of entering my library into the database. You can find all the books currently available to borrow with the Borrow By Mail tag.

What about ebooks & audiobooks?

Only print books are available from my Lending Library. However, the Queer Liberation Library has many trans ebooks and eaudiobooks available.

How much does it cost?

The only cost to the borrower is the postage to return the book when they are finished.

Return postage may be estimated using the book’s weight listed and the current USPS Media Mail rates.

Do I have to give my real name?

No. All I ask for is a name and address that will ensure the book reaches you and an email address to contact you.

Will my information remain private?

Yes. The form to request books is encrypted and viewable only by me. Once I have the request, the form data will be deleted from the server. I will only keep the information until the book is returned and in a location that is only accessible by me.

Are there fines/fees or limitations?

There are no fines or fees. There is a limit of one book at a time per household. Borrowers are responsible for return postage. (If you find yourself in a place where you can’t afford the postage, contact me and we’ll work something out.)

How do I request a book?

Look for the “Borrow By Mail” button. Click it and fill out the form to request the book.

What if the book I want is not available?

You will see a “Place Hold” button instead of “Borrow By Mail.” Click it and fill out the form. You will be placed on a waiting list for the book. See how many people are ahead of you by looking for the “People Waiting” field on the book’s page. I update this number manually so it may differ from the confirmation email I send upon receiving your hold request. The confirmation email has the most up to date number.

How do I cancel a hold or request?

You can reply to the confirmation email I sent, or use my contact form to let me know you no longer want the book.

Can you send books internationally?

I’m sorry. Due to costs, I am unable to mail books outside of the United States.

Do you accept book donations?

Not at this time, due to space limitations.

Do you accept monetary donations?

Thank you! And, Yes, you can support the Trans Literature Database and the Lending Library through my Ko-Fi page.
